Environmental Determinants of Health

Faith communities have had an active role in addressing the problems of climate change and environmental racism. These and other environmental  issues are of deep concern, as recent research has drawn attention to the inequitable burden of the health impacts of climate change and pollution. Other critical environmental issues include harmful toxins and chemicals in consumer products, harmful housing exposures (including lead and mold), and noise pollution. Further interrelated social determinants of health include food systems; safe, accessible, and affordable public transportation; traffic/pedestrian safety; work exposures; gentrification; and healthy land use.
